Vital Information

If you're coming to Mersea whether to stay or just visit, there's a couple of tips to help you have the best experience here.

The Strood (Causeway)

The Strood is part of the B1025 road onto Mersea and a few times a month it becomes covered by the tide; unless you're used to off-roading in your 4x4 or have a boat, you won't be able to cross for around an hour.

Remember to check the tide tables when you're making a journey in case it effects your timing.

Parking & Public Transport

Mersea benefits from public parking in the village centre, on the esplanade in West Mersea, along with at the marina on Coast Road.

Car parking costs may apply but the local council keeps it free where possible.

Please see the Getting Here section for details on public transport and directions.

The Beach

The beach at Mersea is considered clean and is a shingle/sandy beach. Along the main stretch in West Mersea there are toilet blocks, cleaning water and various shops and restaurants.

The water quality is considered high and suitable for bathing, but please do check the notices when you visit. There is a local Lifeboat and Coastguard Station.

Dog Walking

Dogs are generally allowed on the beaches, but please remember to check the signs and clear up any mess he or she makes.

Particular good for dogs is Cudmore Grove - the country park on Mersea - which has a large field, great for bounding!
